Logan Mailloux: Draft Stock Plummets after Conviction

Controversial Defenseman Faces Uncertainty Ahead of 2021 NHL Draft

Background

Logan Mailloux, once projected as a potential top-15 pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, has seen his stock plummet following the emergence of disturbing reports. In July 2021, it was revealed that Mailloux had faced a charge of distributing an intimate image without consent in Sweden, resulting in a conviction.

As a result of this incident, Mailloux has been banned from the Swedish Hockey League indefinitely. The NHL has also issued a statement condemning Mailloux's actions and stating that they will take appropriate action after the draft.

Draft Projections

Prior to the release of these reports, Mailloux was ranked 51st in TSN's draft rankings. However, following the news, several teams have indicated that they will not consider drafting Mailloux. The Laval Rocket AHL has also removed Mailloux from their draft board.

It is now unclear whether Mailloux will be drafted at all. If he is, it is likely that he will be selected much later than his original projection.

Ongoing Investigation

The NHL is currently investigating the incident involving Mailloux. It is possible that further action could be taken, including a suspension or even a lifetime ban from the league.

Mailloux has expressed remorse for his actions and has stated that he is committed to making amends. However, it remains to be seen whether he will be given a second chance by the NHL.
