The PS1 Contemporary Art Center in New York City will present a large-scale project by Hedi Slimane from December 17, 2023, through March 13, 2024. The exhibition, titled "Berlin," will feature over 400 photographs taken by Slimane in and around the German capital over the past ten years. The exhibition will be Slimane's first major solo museum exhibition in the United States.
Slimane is best known for his work as a fashion designer and photographer. He was the creative director of Yves Saint Laurent from 2012 to 2016, and he has also designed collections for Dior Homme and Celine. In recent years, Slimane has focused on his photography, and he has published several books of his work, including "Berlin," "Tokyo," and "Los Angeles."
The photographs in "Berlin" are a mix of street photography, portraits, and landscapes. They capture the city's unique atmosphere and energy, and they offer a glimpse into Slimane's own creative process. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue with an essay by the art critic Jörg Heiser.
