River Plate cruise past Tucuman

River Plate thrashed Tucuman 4-0 in Argentina's top-flight league on Sunday, moving top of the standings after 12 games.

Julián Álvarez opened the scoring for River in the 10th minute, heading home from a cross by Milton Casco. The hosts doubled their lead in the 20th minute when Enzo Fernández fired a low shot into the bottom corner from outside the area.

Braian Romero made it 3-0 to River just before half-time, heading home from a free-kick by Casco. Álvarez added his second of the game in the 60th minute, finishing off a counter-attack by River.

The win moved River top of the table with 28 points, one ahead of second-placed Boca Juniors. Tucuman remained in 15th place with 13 points.
